Hey there, I’m Katherine Carrera. I am originally from the Bordertown of Laredo, Texas. I

spent my entire life in Laredo, stayed there for undergrad, earned a biomedical informatics

certificate from UT Health Houston, and worked on some graduate classes during my gap

year before finally moving to El Paso for medical school at Texas Tech. Growing up, I was

always attracted to all the craziness the ED had to offer and it was confirmed after

experiencing it during medical school.

I chose Corpus Christi as my number one residency program after doing one of my away

rotations here. I enjoyed every shift I had. All the residents I met and worked with seemed

so competent, kind, and enthusiastic about teaching. The interns impressed me because

after it only being their second month, they were so comfortable and confident in their

decisions and skills. The faculty were supportive, awesome teachers, and had amazing

relationships with the residents. I knew I’d have the ability to do countless procedures and

help take care of some of the sickest patients. After leaving at the end of my rotation, all I

wanted to do was come back.

I’m excited to explore Corpus and all that it has to offer. The ocean view to and from a shift

will never get old. For fun, I love to watch movies, paint, play volleyball, dance to all kinds

of music, and spend quality time with family. I will be taking advantage now that I’m so

close to them.
