Medical School: University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth

I grew up in Fort Worth, Texas, and have been lucky enough to call Texas my home for my entire life.  Undergrad took me a mere 45 minutes north to Denton, where I attended the University of North Texas and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. I landed my first job, teaching third grade, the same day I married my wonderful husband. Three years later, our oldest son arrived and made our world so much sweeter.

Five years into my teaching career, I made the decision to leave the school and families I had grown to love to pursue medicine. I re-enrolled at UNT to complete my pre-requisites and never looked back or regretted my decision. I continued the UNT tradition by joining the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. Our second son joined the party at the end of my first year of medical school.

I rotated in Corpus Christi as a third year medical student and was sold on the program within the first week. The residents I worked with were smart, capable, and confident in their knowledge. They exemplified the qualities that I hoped to one day possess. I also admired the camaraderie between the residents and the faculty. Every other program on the interview trail had tough shoes to fill!

Residency can be difficult, but surround yourself with the right people and it is bearable and often times, enjoyable! My co-residents have become like family and I’m grateful to have the opportunity to train with some of the most talented physicians I’ve met. Living by the beach is a great perk too!
