Medical School: University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth - Texas COM

Thanks for checking out our program! I was born and raised in Austin, Texas and hung around for college at the University of Texas where I met my wife. I spent some time working as a ED medical scribe after college before heading to Fort Worth, Texas for a Masters program followed by medical school. I came to Corpus Christi for an audition rotation at the end of my third year and was immediately impressed by the competency of all the residents, especially the soon to be graduated 3rd years. I didn’t truly understand the benefits of an unopposed program until I saw trauma codes run by a teams of all EM residents: airway, team lead, and procedures all being done by EM residents. The residents and faculty were incredibly welcoming, down to earth, and seemed very invested in the program. I left confident I would receive amazing training around great people.

Since starting residency here I have not been disappointed. We have a unique, unopposed, high-acuity, and high-autonomy learning environment with great people. The benefits of an unopposed program are obvious: no competing residencies, direct interactions with consultants, and an incredibly large number of diverse procedures, which allows most residents to complete their requirements easily by the end of intern year. Beginning residency in the middle of a pandemic has come with a unique set of challenges, but the people here make showing up to work easy.

Outside of work my wife and I love hanging out with the residents, going to the beach, and weekend trips to Austin and Houston. We have a 6-month-old “Bordoodle” (half border collie and half poodle), Zoe, who is objectively the cutest dog, and we love training her and taking her on trips to the beach. We would love to have you come spend a month with us and see why we think this residency is so special.
