Medical School: University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School

I moved thirteen times before I turned thirteen before settling in Texas in high school. When it came time for college I moved to Austin and then never left. I even commuted 1 hour each way to be able to still live in Austin while working as a med surg nurse at a teaching hospital in Temple, Texas. I met my husband in Austin, had both of my children there, and was able to be a part of a brand new medical school there as well.

I honestly thought I would stay in Austin forever. But, driving home from the hospital on week two of my away rotation in Corpus Christi I called my husband and said, “Hey, I think we may end up moving to Corpus…”

I was lucky enough to interview at some fantastic programs including my home program in Austin, but I kept coming back to the program here. The unopposed program is phenomenal. The senior residents are the kind of doctors I aspire to become. The faculty are supportive and friendly. Despite starting intern year in the middle of a pandemic, the program has lived up to my expectations. Living in Corpus has been fun too! My daughters love the beach and the parks, and my husband has taken up fishing as a hobby. I’m really grateful that I matched here and would definitely recommend this program to anyone.
