Residency
Clinical Curriculum
The emergency medicine residency curriculum
is based on twelve, 4-week blocks during each
post-graduate year.
The curriculum is designed to provide
residents with the necessary skills to practice
effectively in any Emergency Department.
The PGY-1 year is designed to give incoming
residents a broad knowledge base as well as to begin
developing the core Emergency Medicine knowledge.
In the PGY-2 year, residents are expected
to assume more responsibility, which is reflected in the
increased number of Emergency Medicine months. They are
also encouraged to develop more advanced procedural skills
and to learn to manage high acuity patients.
PGY-3 residents will take an active role in
managing the Emergency Department as well as supervising
PGY-1 and 2 residents. They will also play an active
role in didactic sessions and in the teaching of rotating
medical
students.
