Corpus Christi
is home to a wide variety of photographic locations for all
levels of photographers, from sunrises on
Padre Island to downtown architecture.
The area is blessed with
year-round opportunities for the aspiring shutter-bug, and is
the prime destination for many photographers.
Wildlife photography is
a big draw around the Corpus area.
The Coastal Bend of Texas and is
one of the greatest birding locales in the country.
The city has been named the “Birdiest
City
in the United States”
for seven years running as awarded by the American Birding
Conservancy.
More than 510 species of birds
have been seen at the over 75 birding sites that are
identified as excellent viewing locations for birds and
wildlife.
Corpus hosts the
semi-annual Coastal Bend Wildlife Photo Contest which attracts
photographers from all over the country during the 18-week
contest.
The area also hosts one of the
nations largest hawk watch sites each fall at
Hazel
Bazemore
County
Park,
as well as the annual Rockport Hummingbird Festival.
Birders and photographers travel
from all over the world to view the endangered Whooping Cranes
which winter on the Aransas National Wildlife Refugee located
just north of Corpus.
The semi-tropical
climate of Corpus
Christi is a haven for butterflies
which are easily photographed at the South Texas Botanical
Gardens on the south side of the city.
Springtime finds abundant
opportunities to view wildflowers in and around the area.
Landscape photographers have many
beautiful vistas to shoot along the Padre Island National
Seashore, which boasts the longest uninhabited barrier island
in the world.
The King Ranch which adjoins the
south border of Corpus is world famous for its trophy bucks,
quail, and javelina.
Photographic
and wildlife viewing tours are available on the ranch during
the winter.
